Blackheart are multi-instrumentalists Chrissy Mostyn and Rick Pilkington. Their unique music has been described as “A heavenly fusion of acoustic folk, intelligent pop and classical music”, “Utterly magical” by the BBC’s John Gilmore, “Enchanting” by ABC Australia and “One of the best things to come out of England in recent years.” by Fatea Music Magazine.
After three successful albums, over 600 concerts from Amsterdam, Berlin and Sydney to London, Belfast and Glastonbury and radio play in nearly every country in the world, Blackheart’s music is still impossible to categorise. They combine acoustic instruments and the voice of Chrissy Mostyn with piano, omnichord, electric percussion, electric mandola, bowed guitar and vintage synthesisers to create a new and very unique vision of contemporary folk music. Their show features multi-instrumental playing and continuous changing of moods and combinations of instruments. A reviewer recently said “Blackheart are a miniature orchestra - 2 people who sound like 22". BBC presenter Sally Naden said on air "Blackheart sound like half a dozen musicians when it’s just two people making all that amazing sound. They are a really unusual, truly unique duo that sound like a huge band.”
Their highly personal, haunting music led Australia’s Western Star to say “Blackheart take their audiences from heartbreaking to uplifting in a single song” Radio 2’s Aled Jones to simply say “A great band” and Genesis legend Steve Hackett to describe their music “Beautiful, powerful and inspiring.”
The songs they write are true personal stories and they tell fascinating, sometimes hilarious and sometimes very moving stories about their songs, how and where they were written and also about their unusual musical life on the road.
Their success began when their song ‘Unlike Water’ was used as the soundtrack to a major TV commercial. Now signed to Right Track / Universal Records, Blackheart have released three albums and three singles of which 'Wednesday Afternoon' got national UK airplay and led them to two headline tours of Australia and New Zealand plus successful tours of Ireland, Germany and The Netherlands.
Their new album 'Songs From a Satellite' entered the Amazon chart within 5 days of release and is available at iTunes, Amazon and HMV nationwide. It went on to be awarded second place ‘Album of the Year’ in the USA Independent Music Awards. Their single Christmas Lights reached No.52 in the UK Christmas Chart and they continue to be played on Radio 2 and radio stations around the world.
